Gucci Soho Disco Review

We all have that bag we lust over and have on our life wish lists and maybe even need to save a lifetime of pennies for! Well for me that bag has been the Gucci Soho Disco

Source
I’ll start with saying that I’m not a purse girl in the sense that I have a hundred bags that I’m constantly rotating through. I’m a fan of just a few investment bags that will go with anything and can be pieces I wear year after year.
As such, I’ve been eyeing this beauty for quite some time knowing it would be the bag I would grab every weekend. I was lucky enough to finally splurge and pull the trigger on my recent trip to Florence. There seemed no better place to bring it home from than the flagship store there (which  PS, I was obviously geeking out at. Least chic and chill Gucci shopper in the room!)

Bottom Line: It’s the perfect weekend bag if you’re a girl who likes a light purse, a leather shoulder strap, and struggles getting an overstuffed wallet out of your typical cross body. (I’m looking at you my ever-loved Rebecaca Minkoff MAC!)

Colors: If you’ve been here for even a second, you know I’m partial to the nudes so for me black was the obvious choice followed by the rose beige leather which is a lovely light nude. On Gucci’s website, you can also get it in red, off-white leather, metallic, and black Python (though at a higher price.) Sometimes other retailers like Saks and Neiman Marcus have really fun colors, most of which go on a small discount as seasons close out so that’s a great place to look for a slightly more affordable version!

Size: The bag is 8x6x2.7 meaning for me it’s the perfect weekend size and is really the Goldilocks of cross bodies – not too small, not too big. It weighs in at less than a pound, which is essential for me in a weekend bag because I hate running around the city with something giantic that makes my shoulder ache by the end of the day! First world problems, but you purse-over Packers feel me.

Structure: Another awesome selling point for me was the limited small pockets inside. I also initially was a bit turned off by it being fabric lined at this price point, but quickly learned that’s what contributes to it being so light! Another tiny detail that is probably not noticeable to most gals but totally won me over is that the zipper actually comes down the sides of the bag a bit, making it open really wide for such a slim profiled bag.  This means it’s so easy to get to all of your junk, and you’re not fishing around in a tiny dark hole when you can’t remember where you shoved your metro card.  No? Just me?

All told, this thing is just a dream and I know I’ll be nuts about it for years to come.

Do you have an investment bag that has become your go-to? What do you love about it?

Nude Strappy Sandal

I am consistently on the hunt for the perfect nude strappy sandal.  I need something that is fairly walkable, but looks like I made some effort when I throw them on to walk to dinner or out for drinks.  Ideally, it should be something with a shorter heel, and not so many straps that it looks like my foot is into fifty shades of something.   Because my footwear tends to take a bit of a beating in the summer, I try not to spend too much on shoes that I run around in.  For this set, the value added are the perfect pair for me – I think Isola makes a gorgeous shoe and their sandals hold up for multiple seasons. Do you have a summer sandal favorite?

Striped Tee Shirt Dress

A striped tee shirt dress in a ponte knit is a piece I reach for all year.  Right now, I still add tights and some ankle booties with a leather jacket as a topper.  In another couple of months, it gets a gauzy scarf, sandals, and a straw hat.  In a real pinch, it works poolside as something to throw on to make a run for drinks.  All of these have a great sleeve length with a perfect hemline for the weekend. (Longer sleeves can be a bit dowdy if the hemline here were any longer.) My favorite of the asset class choices today is the Old Navy pick. Can you believe it’s less than $20?! Old Navy does excellent dresses for spring and summer wear, and at the absolute value price point,  I never feel guilty if I have to replace them the following year.   We’ll be solving this style later next week and pairing this darling closet staple with a few different extras.  As this piece is also one of the staples of Parisian chic, I’m feeling like there’s a post on Parisian dressing for spring on deck.  How do you style your striped tee dress?

Well of course you want the Manolos!!  They’re practically perfect in every way.  A darn good substitute, however, and a shoe that I have in multiple colors in my own closet is the Charles David Pact pump.  It can be tricky to find a pump that has the same sleekness and minimalism of some of the high end pumps that we lust for (Manolo Blahnik and Jimmy Choo, I’m looking at you), but Mr. David does well to give us lots of heel and a low cut profile on each side to mimic that high-end effect.

You undoubtedly saw a lot of black distressed denim this past season, and its sister, white distressed denim, is ready and waiting to carry you into the new season and pair with nearly everything you did this winter until it warms the heck up around here!  My favorite white jeans fashion formula before spring really hits is pairing any of these with cognac riding boots, a big black turtleneck sweater, and lots of gold accents.  My favorite of the above are the BlankNYC jeans – a total steal at under $100 with great stretch and a nice “lift” in the fit.  Will you keep wearing distressed jeans this season?

Ready to trade in your winter black bag for something a little lighter?  In asset class, we’ll have three amazing options – ranging from the gold standard to absolute values.  The mark of an expensive looking bag is almost always a lack of flashy logos, subtle details, and minimal shaping.  I picked up the above absolute value Forever21 tote last weekend and am so pleased with this purchase.  At this price point, I won’t faint if it touches the subway floor and it has a remarkably similar strap detail to the  Reed Krakoff beauty above.
