Elle Eats: The NoMad Restaurant Review

The NoMad Restaurant

The gorgeous NoMad Hotel is home to the equally dazzling NoMad Restaurant.  While not new to the New York scene, it was a new-to-me place that definitely lived up to the hype and was worth a few highlights here! Overall, the service is strong (as are the cocktails-ladies pick the “gentlemen’s exchange”) and you’ll find plenty of light and interesting options. Don’t miss the milk and honey dessert. Despite the chicken’s fame it was the best bite I had all night – sweet and salty with just enough creaminess to feel satisfying but not too heavy.

FOOD:  The chicken, obviously the chicken.  They bring you out one heckuva bird that has angel tears and truffles stuffed under the skin. It’s shown to you in somewhat the way I imagine Christmas gooses used to be displayed-feet and all- then brought back to the kitchen and prepped up for you where the Chef does all the heavy lifting of making you a beautiful pile of delicious bird.  Somewhat less obviously, you will also deeply love the tortolloni when it’s on menu, as well as the seared foie gras which is the perfect combination of lightly crisp from the caramelization and smooth and creamy alongside the crunchy veg that accompanies it.

FINANCE:  You’re a few bills deep here.  The classic chicken dish sets you back at 89 USD for two, and other mains run around 30.  Cocktails are “New York” reasonable, but you could also very realistically start your evening with more affordable cocktails just outside the neighborhood and do a simple glass of wine with your dinner here.

FASHION: The classic yet scene-y feel of NoMad calls for something that can straddle both worlds.  This floral Tibi dress is the perfect outfit base.  The longer length gives it some fantastic coverage for early spring, and topped with a fitted leather jacket, it’s just enough tough with your sweet.  Lace up sandals are the shoe of the season, and again, have a bit more to them with the addition of all of those straps and a higher back, ensuring they don’t feel too summery.  The necklace is the less-than-20-dollars modern stunner from Nordstrom that I’ve been wearing with everything and the pops of pink in the lips and bag polish off this look with a little color.

Spring Picks

Truth be told, I’m not a big shopper in the spring.  Fall is more my season, so I usually end up focusing my spring shopping on accessories and beauty buys that can take me into a few seasons.  While you can’t see it in this pic, this tan tote is kind of miraculously a gym bag and a purse in one.  It has a zippered nylon pouch that settles right in it, and seems like it would be perfect for toting some sneaks and a tiny stash of gym clothes on busy days where I can’t shlep two bags through the subway.

I just picked up this sleek modern pendant from Nordstrom, and have been wearing it with everything, including pairing it with that gorgeous paisley scarf!  Zara’s midseason sale is on, so there are some fantastic deals to be had! Speaking of deals, I’m obsessed with this little Sunday Riley bundle that is my current holy grail face routine.  Lactic acid brightens during the day and a retinol in oil formula at night has kept my skin nearly perfectly clear for months now.  I’ve done the math for you gals – the bundle is a super deal, and I love that it’s packaged this way so I don’t have to think about how to combine different products in their line for the perfect routine.

Lastly, has anyone tried M. Gemi? I know I’m absolutely the last girl on the train here, but I’d love to know the fit and feel of these from a gal who has them in her closet.  A think a pointed toe on a loafer is so chic, and glams up your average flats. Do you gals have any favorite picks for spring?

Are You Blushing?

Blush Spring Outfit

Can’t you just picture Olivia Pope running around in these gorgeous neutrals? Blush can feel a little delicate to me, as can a lot of spring neutral palettes so I like adding more rich, warm neutrals to make these colors a bit more sophisticated.  The lovely cognac purse tones down the pink, and the nude shoe helps echo that a bit as well.  Lastly, add a welcome dose of edge with a leopard calf hair belt.  If you were feeling really punchy, you could swap the pattern on the belt and bag (going with a leopard purse instead) and then add a nude or cognac belt.  How do you wear blush?
